Join us — Designer Wanted

By Tom,

June 2019

Hi, we've got a rare opening in our design team. We're looking for the right person regardless of experience. We're accepting applications from graduate/junior and middleweight designers, and we're specifically looking for someone with the right attitude and cultural fit. Here's the deal...

You'll have just bounced out of uni with an abundance of energy, exploding with creative ideas and chomping at the bit to get your first gig.

You'll be ideas focused, keen to learn, happy to contribute and have big ambitions about your design career.

Your work will show us that you understand design thinking, designing for audiences, research, strategy and what looks amazing. Your finishing will be good, but we know it'll only get better.

You'll want to get involved in branding, campaign and website projects, contributing ideas, creative concepts and feedback.

You'll be good at writing, and everything about your application will be considered, checked, double checked and triple checked.

You'll get...

  • £18k salary, with annual pay reviews
  • Work alongside some incredibly talented teammates
  • Long term growth prospects, mentoring and opportunities to progress to more senior levels
  • Great pension options
  • A 27" iMac plus whatever kit you need
  • Fruit, proper coffee/tea, and quality biscuits
  • Regular Wagamama's—It's kind of a tradition

You'll know the ropes. You'll have worked at an agency or in-house for a few years and been involved in brand, campaign and web design projects.

You'll be able to dive into our team, hit the ground running, picking up new and existing projects as you go.

You'll be able to take a brief and deliver a brand identity, brand rollout or website design to the highest standards. Our standards are pretty high.

You'll be working closely with our design and web teams, often on the same project. Some of these projects you'll need to lead and take responsibility for.

It's really important that you can write and talk about your work concisely and confidently to both your teammates and clients.

High skill level in Creative Suite is a given, but bonus points for experience with Sketch/Adobe XD, After Effects, HTML and CSS skills.

What you’ll be doing...

  • Owning your own projects with the support of the senior team
  • Working on new branding, campaign and website projects in collaboration with the rest of the team
  • Picking up existing clients and supporting them
  • Adding your own spin to our work
  • Design and client research
  • Attending and running workshops
  • Designing websites (this includes wire framing, ux and visual design)

You'll get...

  • £25-27k depending on skill level
  • Long term growth prospects, mentoring and opportunities to become a senior designer
  • Great pension options and employee benefits package
  • A 27" iMac plus whatever kit you need
  • Fruit, good coffee/tea, and quality biscuits
  • Regular Wagamama's—It's kind of a tradition.

Let's go!

The position is full time and permanent, based in our lovely Cardiff Bay studio. Our working hours are 8:30am – 5pm Monday to Friday. We are flexible and supportive of people’s different lifestyles and commitments.

To apply...

Email with a link to your portfolio (or PDF folio under 10mb). Please include 'Graduate', or 'Middleweight' in your subject line.

We only want to see killer work, please. No filler. Plus a beautifully typeset CV and covering email of fewer than 150 words on why you're perfect for the role and a good fit for us.

There's no fixed deadline, but we'd like to find the right person by the end of August. If it's sooner, that's even better. We'll be reviewing applications as they come in and offering interviews straight away.
